DemandStar pricing and cost per plan from one agency to national
DemandStar is free for suppliers who follow one government agency. Beyond that you pay by area: 60 USD a year per county, 100 to 1,499 USD a year per state depending on how many agencies in that state use DemandStar, or 2,699 USD a year for every DemandStar agency nationwide. Without a subscription, each bid document package costs 5 USD to download.
Those are DemandStar's own published supplier prices. Many review and comparison pages still quote the older 25 or 35 USD county price and 2,599 USD national, so a lower figure you saw elsewhere is probably out of date.
How much does DemandStar cost?
DemandStar costs nothing for one agency and up to 2,699 USD a year for national coverage. Most suppliers land in between: a county plan at 60 USD a year, or a state plan between 100 and 1,499 USD a year. Plans can be mixed, so a firm can buy two counties and one state. All subscriptions are annual and include free document downloads inside the area.
| DemandStar plan | Annual price | What it covers | Document packages |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Free | Bids from one agency you choose | |
| County | 60 USD per county | Every DemandStar agency in one county | |
| State | 100 to 1,499 USD per state | Every DemandStar agency in one state | |
| National | 2,699 USD | Every DemandStar agency in the country | |
| Pay per download | 5 USD per package | Any single bid |

Why the DemandStar state price ranges from 100 to 1,499 USD
DemandStar prices a state by how many of its agencies use the platform. A state where only a handful of towns post on DemandStar sits near the 100 USD end. A state where many counties, cities, school districts and utilities post sits near 1,499 USD. DemandStar has historically been strongest in Florida, where it started, so expect the state price there to be near the top of the range.
That pricing has a consequence most buyers miss. A cheap state plan is cheap because few agencies in that state use DemandStar, which means most of that state's bids are somewhere else. The price tells you the coverage.
Is DemandStar free for vendors?
Yes, partly. Registering is free and the Basic plan gives you notifications from one agency at no cost, which is how most suppliers first meet DemandStar: an agency they already sell to tells them to register there. You pay once you want bids from more than one agency, or when you download a document package outside your free agency, at 5 USD each.
What a DemandStar subscription includes and what it misses
Every paid plan includes email notifications about bids in the subscription area and unlimited document package downloads there. DemandStar says more than 1,400 agencies post on it, mostly towns, cities, counties, school districts and special districts.
What it does not include:
- Agencies that post elsewhere. DemandStar only carries bids from agencies on its network. A county that posts on its own portal, on BidNet Direct, PlanetBids, OpenGov or Bonfire does not appear, so a state plan is never the whole state.
- Federal contracts. DemandStar is a state and local network. Federal solicitations live on SAM.gov.
- Ranking. Notifications are sent by commodity code and area. Every matching bid arrives with the same weight, so a 3,000 USD supply order and a 2 million USD service contract look alike in the inbox.
Many county and city bid packages on DemandStar also ask for signed and notarized forms, such as a sworn affidavit or a non-collusion statement. If the bid is due before your next trip to a notary, a remote online notary for business teams can finish that page the same afternoon.
Is DemandStar worth paying for?
DemandStar is worth paying for when your buyers are on it. If two or three of the agencies you already sell to post their bids on DemandStar, a county or state plan at 60 to a few hundred USD a year is one of the cheapest bid subscriptions on the market, and the free document downloads alone can cover the cost.
It is a weaker buy when you want everything in a region. Because coverage depends on which agencies joined the network, a contractor who pays for one state still has to check the agencies that post elsewhere, plus SAM.gov for federal work. The national plan at 2,699 USD buys every DemandStar agency, not every agency.
A quick test before you pay:
- List the 10 public buyers you most want to win in the next year.
- Look up which of them post on DemandStar. Agency procurement pages usually say where bids are posted.
- If most of them are there, buy the county or state plan that covers them. If fewer than half are, DemandStar is a supplement, not your main source.
DemandStar pricing compared with other bid services
Prices are published where the vendor publishes them and reported figures where it does not. Check each with the vendor before you sign.

Where DemandStar wins: on price. No other paid service here starts at 60 USD a year, and if your buyers post on it, that is hard to beat. Where it loses: it carries one network and sends every match unranked. The pricing detail for the others is in BidNet Direct pricing, BidPrime pricing and GovSpend pricing.
When a ranked bid list makes more sense than DemandStar
A ranked list makes more sense once you bid in more than one network or more than one level of government. FederalContracts reads federal notices and, on the Capture plan, state, county, city and school district bids, scores each one out of 100 against your company profile and sends the best fits first each morning, with deadlines tracked.
- Bid Desk, 129 USD a month or 768 USD a year. Federal solicitations only, 1 company profile, 3 seats, the daily ranked digest and deadline reminders.
- Capture, 349 USD a month or 2,088 USD a year. Adds state and local bids, 5 business lines, 15 seats and Slack or Microsoft Teams alerts.
Plenty of firms keep a free DemandStar account for the one agency that requires it and use a ranked list for everything else. See state and local government bids for how the state and local matching works.
Does DemandStar charge a fee?
DemandStar charges no fee to register or to follow one agency. Paid plans start at 60 USD a year per county, and without a subscription each bid document package costs 5 USD to download. Agencies pay DemandStar separately to post their bids, which is why the supplier side can start free.
How much is a DemandStar national subscription?
A DemandStar national subscription costs 2,699 USD a year. It covers bid notifications and free document downloads from every agency on the DemandStar network across the country. It does not cover agencies that post on other platforms or on their own websites, and it does not include federal contracts.
How do I cancel my DemandStar subscription?
DemandStar subscriptions are annual. To stop a renewal, contact DemandStar support before the renewal date and ask them to cancel, then keep the confirmation. Your free Basic account and its one agency stay available after a paid plan ends, so you still receive that agency's bids.
Is DemandStar legit?
Yes. DemandStar is an established bid distribution network used by more than 1,400 state and local agencies, and many agencies direct their suppliers to it. Registration and one agency are free. Paying is only worth it if the agencies you want to sell to actually post there.
What is a good alternative to DemandStar?
A good alternative to DemandStar depends on what is missing. For other local networks, BidNet Direct and BidPrime cover agencies DemandStar does not. For federal and state and local bids ranked against your company in one list, FederalContracts Capture costs 349 USD a month, with no annual contract required on monthly billing.
Compare a ranked bid list with your DemandStar plan
Type what your company does and your state. Bid Match ranks a dated snapshot of public solicitation records against it, so you can see which bids a DemandStar state plan would have missed before you renew.
